Telemental Health Q & A

What is telemental health?

During telemental health appointments, also known as telemedicine appointments, with Coping Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry Services, Dr. Vansiea offers psychiatric counseling sessions and medication management from the comfort of your home.

You and Dr. Vansiea use computers outfitted with webcams to meet virtually instead of traveling to the office for mental health care. During the novel coronavirus pandemic, all patient visits with Dr. Vansiea will be conducted via telemedicine.

Dr. Vansiea uses a holistic, patient-centered approach during telemedicine appointments, and depending on the appointments it may last either 30, 60 or 90 minutes. She understands that telehealth appointments can be daunting, so her goal is to make you feel as safe and comfortable as possible.

As an experienced medical professional, Dr. Vansiea has a strong medical and surgical background, allowing her to assess many medical comorbidities and refer out based on medical emergencies or routine care during her comprehensive psychiatric evaluations. She has also worked extensively as a Registered Nurse, operating ventilators, caring for respiratory, cardiovascular, orthopedic and endocrine diseases and many other chronic conditions. She has also obtained specialized training in addiction counseling.

What happens during telemental health appointments?

During telemental health appointments, you communicate with Dr. Vansiea on your computer. Dr. Vansiea reviews your medical history, including past diagnoses and any medications you’re taking, and talks about any symptoms you might have.

She completes a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation to determine the type and severity of a mental health condition, and might recommend one or more of the following:

Medication management

Dr. Vansiea may suggest you take new medications, continue with the same medication regimen, or make medication dosage changes. She develops a medication management plan that alleviates unpleasant symptoms, improves your mood, and restores your quality of life.

Psychotherapy

During psychotherapy or talk therapy, you chat about thoughts and feelings with Dr. Vansiea. She offers cognitive behavioral therapy and other behavioral-change strategies to help you better understand or change your thought and behavior patterns.

Faith-based counseling

Dr. Vansiea and her team can integrate principles of faith into counseling sessions. She combines evidence-based approaches with traditional Christain values to restore your hope, happiness, and quality of life.
